I’ve been evaluating my daughters clothing, we bought her some things to grow into back when we were in the states and Thrift Stores were plentiful. So I thought that I could do some repairs and improvements and give her little wardrobe more of a boutique feel.

Recycle, Reclaim, Re-use, What’s in a Name?

I was visiting a few of my favorite blogs and I noticed that there seems to be some question what to call what I do. I’ve also looked back through my own postings and I haven’t been all that consistent. So I went to visit Wikipedia and found the following:
Recycling is the reprocessing of materials into new products. Recycling generally prevents the waste of potentially useful materials, reduces the consumption of raw materials and reduces energy usage. So if I stuff my little birds with scrap wool, threads, paper etc then it is recycling – right?
Re-using items over and over is what I do when I save clothing my older daughter has grown out of and give them to her little sister, and then pass them on to a friend.
Reclaiming is saving discarded material or items and using them for their original purpose, this I think is where the Thrift Store and Garage Sales, and Dumpster Diving comes in.
So what does all that mean – well Wikipedia is good but also a matter of perspective, I think a lot of this has to do with your emotional reaction to the words… some to be more acceptable than others. Some other words might be: thrifty, penny-pinching, cheap… or responsible. Hmmmmm.
